Why watch a regular movie when you could upgrade to 3D? The same goes for Excel formulas! 3D formulas allow you to quickly calculate data across multiple tabs!
Our boss sent us six weeks of sales data, broken down by region, and asked us to create a tab that sums up all six weeks by region, but he put each week on a separate tab. 🤦🏻♀️ Instead of summing sales by selecting each week’s amount individually, we can create a 3D reference - this will reference the same cell across multiple worksheets and allow us to quickly add across different worksheets.
For example, to sum the northern region’s sales totals using a 3D formula, enter the SUM function and select all of the worksheets you want to include in your calculation. Because we’re summing all six of the weekly worksheets, we’ll include them all by selecting “Week 1” and then “Week 6” while holding down the Shift key to select adjacent worksheets.
Once all of the weekly tabs are selected, all we need to do is select the cell we want to sum, press Enter, and our 3D formula will sum the C3 cell across all worksheets! We can quickly fill this formula to calculate the remaining values for the rest of the table.
No more manually selecting the same cell across multiple different worksheets - you’ll save enough time to go catch a 3D movie instead!
