Never miss a deadline with this function

We’ve all woken up in the middle of the night in a complete panic because we had a dream that we weren’t prepared for an important exam or presentation...well, at least I have. To put your mind at ease, try tracking days until a project is due in Excel using the DAYS function. This calculates the number of days between two dates.

The DAYS function has two arguments, end_date and start_date, that represent the two dates between which you want to know the number of days. The DAYS function calculates the number of days between the two dates by subtracting the start_date from the end_date. If the end_date is before the start_date, the DAYS function will return a negative value.

Take a look at the example above. I calculated days until due by entering due date as the end_date argument and the TODAY function as the start_date argument (because it returns today’s date). The DAYS function then simply takes the due date minus today’s date to calculate the number of days until the project is due.
